Protein Identification Service by Shotgun Proteomics
Shotgun proteomics, also known as a shotgun method, refers to the utilization of bottom-up proteomics techniques to study all proteins present in complex mixtures such as serum, urine, and cell lysates. It combines high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry (MS). The uniqueness of shotgun proteomics lies in its ability to identify and quantify multiple proteins while minimally separating them.
The goal of shotgun proteomics analysis is to identify as many proteins as possible in the sample. Shotgun proteomics analysis utilizes shotgun techniques for comprehensive protein analysis. The basic method involves enzymatic digestion of proteins in the mixture, followed by liquid chromatography (LC) separation of peptides and subsequent identification of peptides using tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) to achieve protein identification. Shotgun proteomics analysis allows for the identification of all proteins in the sample, simultaneously identifying hundreds or thousands of proteins.
MtoZ Biolabs shotgun proteomics identification service is based on ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometry technology, utilizing Thermo Fisher's Orbitrap Fusion Lumos mass spectrometry platform combined with nanoLC-MS/MS nanoscale chromatography, enabling comprehensive identification of a large number of proteins in whole cells, tissues, or complex mixed samples.
